Although we held this event inside South Library and boardroom area, (thanks to the forecast weather) it was a fantastic well-attended, community event.
Ōpāwaho Heathcote River Network's World Rivers Day Celebration 2020 combined forces with World Fish Migration Day to become bigger and better.
We had displays, workshops, activities, music, a small planting along the river banks, the annual photo competition prize-giving, a free barbeque, a wandering giant kōkopu, an activity table where you could draw some river critters, and some fun facts were found to win prizes.
World Rivers Day is an annual international event, and one of the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River Network (OHRN) planned annual events to celebrate the river, the groups along the river and to bring people together. World Fish Migration Day (also an annual international event) was to be held in May, but was postponed due to Covid-19 lockdown, but helped swell our participant numbers to include DoC, Niwa, University of Canterbury, Fulton Hogan, and others.
